Samuel F. B. Morse

(1791-1872)
Samuel F.B. Morse invented a famous signal code of dots, dashes, and spaces used in sending messages long distances over wires. The code served as an electronic alphabet that could be read by trained telegraph operators. He applied for a patent on a relay system consisting of wires, poles and sounder keys. The patent was granted in 1840, Patent No. 1,647, and the first message was sent between Baltimore and Washington in 1844.

People today still learn Morse Code. Pilots and sailors have found it helpful in emergencies. Perhaps you'd like to learn the code also.

Samuel Morse developed Morse Code that was transmitted on machines like this.
